STARR COUNTY, Texas — Family and friends are mourning the tragic loss of Noelio Garza Peña, a Houston resident who died in a fatal two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Starr County. His unexpected passing has left loved ones grieving as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), the crash occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m. on FM 755, just south of FM 1017 near the community of La Gloria.
Preliminary findings indicate that a silver Dodge Ram pulling a trailer was traveling northbound on FM 755 when a gray Dodge 1500 traveling southbound crossed into the northbound lane for reasons that remain under investigation.
Investigators said the driver of the Dodge Ram attempted to avoid a head-on collision by swerving. Despite the evasive action, the southbound Dodge 1500 struck the trailer being towed by the northbound truck.
Noelio Garza Peña, who was a passenger in the Dodge 1500, suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge 1500 was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening. The driver of the Dodge Ram was not injured and declined medical treatment at the scene.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the cause of the crash as troopers work to determine why the southbound vehicle crossed into the opposing lane.
