With deep sadness, family and friends are mourning the passing of Imogene Casada Flynn, a beloved mother, grandmother, homemaker, caregiver, and cherished member of the Somerset, Kentucky, community. Imogene passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving family at her home. Her life was defined by faith, family, service, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness and generosity.
Born on November 11, 1933, in Frazier, Kentucky, Imogene was the daughter of the late Frank Casada and Zella Jones Casada. Throughout her remarkable life, she embraced many meaningful roles, including that of a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother, and cherished “Ninny” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Imogene dedicated years of service to others through her work as a Surgical Nurse Aide at Somerset Hospital, where she cared for patients with compassion and commitment. She was also a respected business owner and co-owner of Flynn’s Grocery on Slate Branch Road, which she and her family operated for 28 years. Her work reflected her strong values of hard work, reliability, and caring for her community.
On November 18, 1949, Imogene married Billy Flynn, and together they shared 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2003. Their life together was filled with love, family, and countless memories. Imogene found great joy in cooking large family meals and spending treasured moments with her grandchildren, creating traditions and memories that will continue to be cherished.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Flynn of Somerset; daughters, Barbara Sanders (Steve) of Somerset and Lana Flynn Richmond (Tim) of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; grandchildren, Bryan, Brad, Marty, Hailey, Aimee, April, Jasilyn, and Jordyn; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, Layton and Hudson; sister Karen Branscum of Somerset; along with extended family members, church family, neighbors, and many friends who will deeply miss her.
Imogene was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Zella Casada; her husbands, Billy Flynn and Russell Lee; sons Steve Flynn and Danny Flynn; grandsons Jeryd Flynn and Stephen Flynn; great-great-grandchild William; brothers Carl Casada and David Casada; and sisters Geneva Flynn and Janice Casada.
The family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Imogene’s special caregiver, Betty Owens, and the compassionate nurses of Hospice of Lake Cumberland for the loving care and support they provided during her final days.
Funeral arrangements include visitation on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset. A second visitation will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church in Bronston, Kentucky, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
