DEVILLE, La. — With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, classmates, and members of the Deville community are mourning the tragic loss of Kent Sanson, 16, whose life was cut short following a single-vehicle crash in LaSalle Parish early Friday morning, July 17, 2026.

Kent’s unexpected passing has left an immeasurable void among those who knew and loved him. As the community grieves this heartbreaking loss, many are remembering him as a kind-hearted young man whose presence brought joy, friendship, and compassion to those around him.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop E, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 4:49 a.m. on Hunt Road near the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area. Troopers responded to the scene following reports of a serious vehicle crash that claimed Kent’s life.

Investigators said a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 18-year-old Reese McKenzie of Deville, was traveling north on Hunt Road when the vehicle lost control for reasons that remain under investigation. The truck left the roadway and overturned, causing multiple occupants to be ejected.

Authorities reported that McKenzie was not restrained and suffered moderate injuries before being transported to a local hospital for treatment. Kent Sanson, who was also not wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.

Five additional passengers were injured in the crash and transported to a medical facility for treatment. Officials said routine toxicology samples were collected and submitted for analysis, and impairment is considered a suspected factor in the collision.

Following the investigation, Louisiana State Police arrested McKenzie on multiple charges, including careless operation of a vehicle, open container, operating a vehicle while impaired, three counts of vehicular negligent injuring, and vehicular homicide. He was transported and processed through the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.

While authorities continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash, Kent’s family and friends are focusing on honoring the young life he lived and the memories he created.
