The Creek County Sheriff’s Office and the wider Oklahoma law enforcement community are mourning the loss of Deputy Adam Heitman, who passed away after suffering a medical emergency shortly following the successful apprehension of a fleeing felony suspect. His death has left fellow deputies, friends, family members, and the communities he faithfully served grieving the loss of a dedicated public servant whose commitment to protecting others never wavered.
According to the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP), Deputy Heitman was participating in a multi-agency operation on July 7 alongside the Creek County Sheriff’s Office Task Force, the United States Marshals Service, the Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police, and fellow Creek County deputies. The operation was aimed at serving warrants on a suspect wanted on multiple felony charges.
When officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he fled on foot. Deputy Heitman, accompanied by his trusted K9 partner, Thanos, immediately pursued the suspect, chasing him over a fence, across a creek, and through an open field before successfully apprehending and taking him into custody.
Less than an hour after returning to the Creek County Sheriff’s Office following the arrest, Deputy Heitman suffered a sudden medical emergency. Fellow deputies and emergency responders immediately began lifesaving efforts before he was transported to Ascension St. John Sapulpa Hospital, where he sadly passed away later that evening despite every effort to save his life.
Deputy Heitman proudly served his country as a United States Marine Corps veteran before continuing his commitment to public service in law enforcement. He had served with the Creek County Sheriff’s Office for four years and previously worked with the Kiefer Police Department, earning the respect of colleagues and community members alike through his professionalism, courage, and dedication.
Beyond the badge, Deputy Heitman was a devoted husband and loving father. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, who now face the unimaginable loss of a beloved husband and father. His passing is also deeply felt by his law enforcement family, who remember him as a dependable teammate, a courageous K9 handler, and a man who answered every call with integrity and selflessness.
Deputy Heitman’s final act of service—risking his safety to help apprehend a dangerous fleeing suspect—stands as a testament to the courage and dedication that defined his career. His sacrifice serves as a powerful reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face each day in protecting their communities.
Heartfelt condolences are extended to Deputy Adam Heitman’s family, friends, fellow deputies, and everyone mourning his passing. May they find comfort in the legacy of honor, service, and sacrifice he leaves behind.
Rest in peace, Deputy Adam Heitman. Your service, courage, and unwavering commitment to others will never be forgotten.
